I have been running well at shorter distances lately like 2 to 3 miles. My breathing is good and I thought the Copper Fit knee braces were working as well. I still do not know what exactly the type of injury I have, I just know that for several years it seems to come back over and over. I think it could be either Plantar Fasciitis or Achilles Tendon but I am not sure. A few years back I did go to a physical therapist recommended by my doctor but they were just plain bad.
I would get there and then have to wait 20 minutes while they worked on other patients then ask me to stretch against a wall and if they finally got involved, would ice my calf and send me home. The terrible thing is they got paid for it. I have bought books on the subject but most recently I have been reading online about it. There are several different advises for fixing the problem but most of what the books suggest really hurt after doing the exercise to where I could not walk. Today I read on a reputable blog called runblogger.com, in which this article talked about a doctor who wrote about an experiment the doctor did with 100 different runners with similar issues.
It said to sit on a chair, put your foot of the problem leg, on your knee and stretch your toes towards your achilles for 10 seconds. It went on to say to do this 10 times a session three times a day. Since I am getting really frustrated not being able to run without pain I figure I will give it a try. The past two years I have tried different type sneakers, gel insoles, heel cushions and compression socks. I’m sure my age of 54 may have to do something with it but my doctor considers me being really healthy for my age. I do not run competitive like I use to I just want to be able to run a 5k to a 10 mile race without the leg pain.
Hopefully today will be the first day towards my recovery because I don’t know what I would do if I could not run anymore.
